Your Pledge and thousands more are supporting a new era of sustainable

tourism that honors Balinese traditions and protects its environment.

WHY A PLEDGE?

Throughout modern history, Bali has been known as an idyllic island paradise, blessed with beautiful beaches, pristine mountains, and open-hearted, welcoming people. Nature’s abundance on the Island of the Gods has allowed the Balinese to prosper. While mass tourism has brought economic benefit, it also has degraded the environment and strained the cultural fabric of Bali. The Bali Pledge seeks to inspire a more sustainable model of tourism on the Island of the Gods.

People of Bali,

I take this pledge to preserve and protect

your beautiful and unique island home.

THE BALI PLEDGE

I vow to tread lightly,

act kindly and explore mindfully.

I shall not take what is not given.

I shall not harm what does not harm me.

I shall respect the spirituality that

transcends all aspects of Balinese life.

PHILOSOPHY

The Bali Pledge is inspired by the Palau Pledge and the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana whereby each person seeks to live in harmony with their Environment, Community, and Spirituality. This philosophy is rooted in the belief that by striving to make tangible, positive impacts in all three aspects of Tri Hita Karana, we achieve a sense of wellness, harmony, and peace.

Support the

COMMUNITY

You Want To Have

Essentially, we are emotional and social creatures. I cannot thrive if others are not thriving too, so for me to be well, we all need to be well.  In supporting one another, we are supporting a better world. We need harmonious relationships on our path toward peace and wellness.

Stay Close to

NATURE

I am one with Mother Nature. The air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we savour are the keys to our future. With my choices and activities, I will do my part to cause no harm to the land and waters of Bali.  If we continue to over-exploit nature without giving back, all life will be harmed.

Honour the

SPIRIT OF BALI

I am part of the Universe and strive for harmony and balance between myself and all that is.  Balinese spiritual practices promote this balance. No matter what my own faith is, I will honor Balinese traditions and endeavor to live in harmony and balance.

As someone who admires Bali. I have lived in several regions in Indonesia. Bali is one of the areas that shows that despite many differences, Bali can unite all those differences with its nature, culture, and also their beliefs. I will be a part that takes care of Bali.

WHO ARE WE?

The Bali Pledge is an initiative developed by a group of mindful business owners and general managers in the tourism industry. As a community, we aim at finding practical and viable solutions to daily problems related to waste, energy, food-sourcing, staff training, and customer relationships. We take positive actions to solve key environmental and social issues.  The Bali Pledge aims to inspire positive change in travel, starting with the unique island of Bali and spreading to the rest of the world.
